About NANOG
The North American Network Operators Group (NANOG) is the professional association for Internet engineering, architecture, and operations. Every individual present is concerned about the core tenants of the internet such as: addressing, cybersecurity, routing, and peering. One of the organizing principals for NANOG is how to get content closer, faster and safer to end users.
Differences from ITW
The first thing you notice at NANOG is how culturally different it is from ITW. If you have never been to one of these conferences, beware it is definitely a blue jeans type of event. Something else different is that no one is trying to sell you anything. It really is about exchanging ideas in an open and collaborative way. ITW seems to be more geared toward closing deals.
Why we go to NANOG and why you should go too
As the internet continues to grow, we need to be vigilant as to how content and the internet itself can be brought closer to end users. NANOG is one of the best places to learn about new peering arrangements and technologies. One of our top priorities at MDC is to stay on top of the changing nature of the internet and interconnection of all manner. We do this as part of our daily efforts to strengthen our ecosystem of carriers & content providers on the US-Mexico border. These efforts align with our ethos of carrier neutrality, ultimately helping bring more networks and people together.
